They are especially necessary for receivers, linemen, line backers and running backs. They improve a player’s efficiency while at the same time providing him with a grip on the ball that makes for better performance on the field. Discussed below are some football glove basics that should help you in coach legacy perfume a decision when it comes to buying football gloves for yourself:

Upper Glove Material: Most of the football gloves available in the market today carry a top of leather, spandex or synthetic leather. If you can afford it, the kinds with a leather upper are a good choice because it will last a long time. On the other hand, because of leather being a natural material, they will allow your hands to breathe. As a result, your hands will be comfortable while playing. Another good thing about a leather glove is that it is very flexible, so it will not be hampering either your grip or your performance. Synthetics on the other hand, will not be as comfortable, as flexible or as durable as leather. However, these are much cheaper than gloves with leather backs, and can be used by beginners. In order to have maximum flexibility, you can buy one that has an upper made of stretchable material. Nowadays, most running back, receiver and defensive back gloves have uppers made of some or the other kind of spandex material.

Glove Palm Material: The material on the palm is the one that is responsible for enhancing or decreasing your performance. Generally, football glove palms are either made of latex or cabatta leather. Cabatta leather is a thin leather material that is treated with chemicals that coach legacy perfume tackiness and provide a better ball grip. This leather is extremely soft, flexible and durable. On the other hand, the kinds with latex palms might not be as durable. The only drawback is that latex might get slippery in wet weather.

Playing Position: Different kinds are available for different playing positions. So while a lineman’s should be heavily padded on the top and the wrist, a line backer would benefit from a glove that is heavily padded but at the same time is flexible and soft. It is important that a line backer’s have a sticky palm as well. Soft and flexible kinds with a sticky palm are best suited for running backs and receivers while a defensive back’s should not just have the same qualities, but should also be padded on the upper.

Why Give Donations to Charities of Your Choice?

September 30th, 2008

Have you encountered any charitable organization asking for your donations? A lot of people would really like to receive help from you. Do you agree to give your donations to charities with worthy causes? If yes, how do you select the organizations that you want to render your help? If we start at the beginning, the first question that comes to mind is why should you donate to a charitable organization? The fact is, you get a lot of benefits by simply donating.

Like every April, we are always reminded to pay our taxes to the government. However, if we give our donations to any charity, your money will otherwise go directly into the hands of those people who are really in need instead of going to the government first. Charitable organizations are made of different forms. One way of making your donations is through cash. Others include items the organization is giving away. For instance, if the charity of your choice is for rehabilitating the victims of a certain calamity such as flood, tsunami, earthquake, etc., you are required to donate basic stuff which includes tents, clothing, food stuff, and medicine. Some people who are reluctant in joining a charitable organization were influenced under the illusion that they are required to give large sums of money on regular basis.

This is not the case however. The amount you give is actually depends on you. What matters most is putting you heart into it.Did it ever come to your mind that when you decide to donate to a charity, you have a more room to exist? Some people who decided to donate to charities give their items that may be used for the cause. Do you have items at home that may serve as your donations? If you give away those items you do not necessarily need, does it not make your space at home bigger? But of course this is not really the basis why we need to give away our items; it’s the willingness to help others. We know that everyone of us has different success levels. If we are in abundance, why not share a part of it to those who lived with not so fortunate lives? Speaking of the difference in the levels of success, we should think back if are we this successful in the past as we are today. Was there also a time when you were one of the causes to a charitable organization? If yes, then perhaps it’s time to return the help you’ve received before.

Donating can be done in different forms. It could be through money or in kind. Some people donate under the name of their loved ones who passed away too. This act usually eases the pain by living on the legacy that mattered to the deceased. Then suddenly, your thoughts on donating might suddenly have a new meaning.Lastly, when you’ve finally decided to give donations to charity/charities of your choice, why not think back on the things that mean to you. Each time you donate, these donations should stand for the ideals you truly believe in. Never forget that a charitable organization has the same goal as you. When you donate, you help in making the cause come true.

Help those who are in need of the most. It does not matter how much help you have done for that particular organization, what matters most is that you are part of accomplishing the goal. And alongside that same line, when you decide to give your donations to a charity, look at what matters to you most. No one would like to give his/her donations to a charitable organization if he/she doesn’t believe in what the charity is striving to accomplish. It’s very easy make donations to a charity if you feel the same in what the organization is working for.So what is really the initial reason for you to give donations to a charity? Do you wish to donate for continuing the legacy of a loved? Or do you donate because you totally agree in its cause and what they do to accomplish it? Whatever you reasons you have, the decision to donate to a charity is truly a noble one.

Multi-Seasonal Fashion

September 30th, 2008

Remember the days when trends lasted one season? To be caught wearing last season’s “it” item was the Kiss of Death. Now we cross our fingers and hope that skinny jeans and metallics come back for encore performances. Well, we got our wish. And for those of us who love wearing dresses-even in the dead of winter-we can hold on to most of those too. Finally, the style mavens are cutting us some slack!

A Leg up on Leggings

You’ve probably noticed that leggings are back in a big way, so if you were holding out to make sure the trend caught on, now’s the time to catch up to the early adopters. According to Michelle Antonelli, design director of Cable & Gauge and Spenser Jeremy, wearing leggings can be tricky (and you thought it was as easy as one leg after another).

To avoid further confusion, Ms. Antonelli breaks it down for us.

How to wear leggings

  • Pick an easy style dress in one of the new baby doll, a-line or trapeze shapes.
  • Go soft by selecting a feminine printed georgette or an easy soft knit dress in a great color.
  • Keep it simple by opting for a solid color legging in black or brown.
  • Keep it in proportion. Make sure the dress or top you select hits just at or above the knee. If you’re wearing a mini-dress, select Capri length leggings and a ballerina flat.
  • Skip the hosiery and show off your ankles and the top of your foot by wearing a ballerina flat or colored pump.

Dressing up for the transition from winter to spring/spring to summer

Fashion divas hate to give up their favorite frocks, and fortunately layering is still a key trend, which allows us to wear make a smooth transition. Here are some simple tips from Ms. Antonelli on making your must-have dress span a couple of seasons.

Favorite Sheer Printed Dress:

When the weather is chilly pair with a great turtleneck, tights and boots. When springtime arrives shed the layers and slip into a strappy metallic sandal with the great completer – an abbreviated length cardigan. For a super casual summer look, treat yourself to a fabulous pedicure and slip on your favorite flip flops.

Essential Sheath Dress:

Layer a fine gauge long sleeve knit tee to give the essential dress a jumper look for winter. On a chilly spring day trade in the tee for a soft short sleeved tee or slip into a colorful topper jacket that is just about two inches above the hem of the dress. When it’s time to go sleeveless be sure to select a structured patent leather flat or go for a color or special detail like a bow or buckle. Jimmy Choo recently featured a rich red with vanilla trip and a bow that would be the perfect addition to the essential sheath dress.

Knit Dresses:

Matte jersey dresses or separates can be your year-round friend. Pair with your favorite short cardigan a pair of warm and cozy tights. Many women find knits an essential addition to their travel wardrobe or for those in between days when Mother Nature hasn’t quite figured out what she’d like to do.

The Return of Metallic: How to Make It Work

According to Antonelli, if the runway is an indication of what’s here to stay, then metallics will be with us for yet another year. Designers have embraced shimmer and retailers are still hot for metallics, but how can we be on trend without blinding ourselves? Here are two quick tips to keep in mind the next time you reach for a metallic piece:

Find Your Shine:

Don’t be afraid to experiment. Handbags, shoes, belts, Lurex sweaters and dresses in brocade or jacquard fabrics all feature different degrees of shimmer, from metallic glazes to simple touches of metallic, hardware details (grommets, buckles and rings) and two-tone trims. Cable & Gauge features gold metallic thread details and hardware in its nautical and classic neutral resort styles that can be worn from late winter and into spring. The summer line will also offer shimmery shells.

Opt for Simple Shimmer:

Remember less is more when it comes to metallic and the trick to pulling off the luxe look is to pick one piece and let it shine. It’s easy to start at the top by selecting a metallic knit with a special detail like a kimono sleeve or a blouson shape and dress it up with a velvet skirt for cocktails or pair it with jeans for a casual look. Experiment and investigate this trend, it’s here to stay… at least for now.

Special thanks to Michelle Antonelli, design director of Cable & Gauge and Spenser Jeremy for her fabulous advice!

Iconic Hats – The Fedora

September 29th, 2008

[One Article in a series on Iconic Hat Styles]

Humphrey Bogart and James Cagney. Clark Kent and FDR. For most of the 20th Century, up until 1960 when John F. Kennedy took off his hat at his presidential inauguration, men were not considered dressed for work without a hat. In that century, the fedora was king (also known as a trilby in Europe) supplanting, in short order, the bowler and the top hat as well as all other styles for men. Although the style is mostly associated with men, the name “Fedora” comes from the heroine of French playwright Victorien Sardou’s drama presented in Paris in 1882. Fedora wore the hat style in the play that would become the hallmark of movie tough guys, Chicago gangsters, private eyes, newspaper reporters–in fact by the 1930s, virtually every man who put on a suit of cloths topped off with a fedora.

If you are reading this and your grandfather lived in either Europe or North America, chances are he wore a fedora. Today, the fedora is, hands down, the best selling men’s style (we’re talking full size hat-not ball caps and the like). The safari style, a fedora crown with a brim turned down in the front and the back, received a huge boost with the Indiana Jones movies where Indy’s hat was emblematic of the man. When we in the hat business engage our fantasy of men’s hats coming back in general fashion, we picture the fedora. The fedora was and can be again, everyman’s hat–the true successor to the bowler. Snap the brim and let your girlfriend know “Here’s looking at you kid.”

Do I Really Need to Post My Photo for Online Dating?

September 29th, 2008

Online dating success relies on many factors, including your profile, your opening headline, and just how well you communicate once you jump in and start emailing or chatting with other members. But any online dating service will tell you, and most surveys agree that posting a photo is one of the real keys to online dating success. Although you don’t want all of your hopes to hinge on your looks, it’s true that most people who are browsing through an Internet dating site will first view the profiles that include photos. There are several reasons for this. First, it’s simply nice to have a face to put with the profile and description. Second, some people, rightly or wrongly, are afraid that if you don’t post your picture you might have something to hide, and third, some people simply have a particular look that appeals to them.

You don’t have to post a picture of yourself if you don’t want to, but you may be missing out on meeting some great people if you don’t, since profiles with pictures get about 70% more responses than those that don’t have photos. Of course, if you are uncomfortable having your photo on the Internet, nothing says you have to put it up for everyone to see. An alternative might be to mention in your profile that you would be glad to send a photo to anyone who is interested in corresponding. This way, you know that you’ve already gotten their attention with your profile, and you can limit who sees your picture. Try it this way if you are leery, but if you are disappointed with your early results, you might reconsider posting a photo of yourself. After all, the other members are there for the same reason you are – to meet someone as nice as you, and they’ve probably posted their photos already.

What Makes A Good Photo?

There are some things to keep in mind when posting a photo to an online dating site. First and most important is that it should be recent and accurate. Don’t use a picture from eight years ago, and don’t have a glamour shot taken so that you look like a soap opera star if that isn’t what you look like in real life. They’re going to meet you eventually if things go well, and you don’t want them to feel like they’ve been deceived. A head and shoulders shot is best – and please either have a photographer or friend take it. Don’t try it yourself at arm’s length on your digital camera at 2:00 am – these always look poorly lit and “last minute.” Some definite don’ts are pictures of you with your ex, pictures in lingerie (unless you want sexual propositions instead of dates), and photos of you with your mother or your car. Sorry, guys – women aren’t nearly as impressed with your car as you are. If the online dating site you’re joining allows you to post more than one photo, you can post additional ones that

Include friends, family or pets if these are important to you. Photos of you involved in a favorite activity (sailing, hiking, etc.) are also a good way to show some of your personality while letting others see what you look like. Just remember – the main picture should always be of just you, close-up and neatly dressed and groomed. And remember, that main photo is the image they will carry in their minds while corresponding with you – so if you’re a casual person, wear a sweater or tee-shirt. If you’re a more formal person, dress up a bit, so the photo reflects not only your appearance, but your personality. And remember, a picture really can paint a thousand words.

  • This is the simplest way of tying a scarf. You need to just place the scarf on top of the head so that it covers the head and the neck completely. Now the two ends of the scarf have to be brought in front and tied under the chin. It gives a very rural look.

What Makes a Celebrity Clothing Line Successful?

September 29th, 2008

As society becomes more and more engrossed with celebrities, artists are making their popularity more profitable than ever by offering us a chance to share a little of themselves – their clothes, their perfumes, even their underwear! – all for a price of course.

Welcome to the world of the celebrity clothing line.

Of this new industry, one pioneer is Rocawear, by Damon Dash and Jay Z. Originallycatering to men’s clothing, it now also sells ladies’ wear, bags, accessories, footwear, and children’s clothes. It has a $700 million annual turnover, and if that weren’t enough, it also earned for its owners $207 million in cash when they sold the rights in 2007 to the Iconix Brand Group.

And other celebrities have successfully followed in Jay Z’s footsteps: Puff Daddy, JLo, and Justin Timberlake, to name a few.

So what makes a celebrity brand successful?

First, the fans need to be able to tell that the clothing line is connected to the celebrity. After all, if the only reason why you would buy a JLo outfit is because it is JLo’s, you would not buy it if you did not know it was hers. Makes sense?

Next, it must carry clothing styles that the artist actually wears. Rocawear is successful because JayZ wears it himself, so if you love JayZ and want to look like him, there’s no easier way to do it than by buying and wearing Rocawear.

Finally, the artist must carry a message. We use our clothes to express ourselves. When an artist expresses something exceptionally well, we wear his/her clothing line to express the same thing. It worked for the Spice Girls “girl power” in the 90’s and the Sex Pistols’ “I am an anarchist” torn t-shirts and biker boots in the 80’s, and it will work at any age. That’s because we never run out of things we want to express, and we seldom have the courage to express it openly. So we buy clothes that do it for us.

Vintage Icon – Grace Kelly

September 25th, 2008

Grace Kelly was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on 12 November 1929 to John and Margaret Kelly. Born into a wealthy family with two sisters and a brother, she spent her childhood in the Kelly home on the hill above East Falls, 3901 Henry Avenue. At a young age, Grace decided she wanted to become an actress and after finishing school studied acting at American Academy of Dramatic Art and worked as an actress and model in New York before moving to Hollywood. This was where she began to mold her own emphatic style.

I guess the first images we had of her were when she promoted Old Gold cigarettes and appeared on the covers of magazines such as Cosmopolitan and Redbook. She was to create a unique style of her own. A fairytale story of the all American Girl who made it big in Hollywood and married her Prince Charming. Grace debuted in the film Fourteen Hours, in a minor supporting role, this was to snowball her silver screen career starring in Hollywood blockbusters such as High Noon and Mogambo which won her an Academy Award nomination and a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress.

Grace is known for her image I guess as much as her performances for this she needed the help of two designers, Edith Head and Helen Rose. Her work in High Noon and a screen test for the film Taxi piqued the interest of director Alfred Hitchcock, who introduced her to Edith Head, who was a brilliant costume designer of this vintage period, she groomed Grace into his image of an elegant, beautiful blonde he envisaged for his movies. Edith Head designed clothes for several Kelly films but only Hitchcocks Rear Window and To Catch a Thief gave her the real opportunity to put Grace in this luxurious and sophisticated wardrobe.

She gave Hitchcock unforgettable performances in Dial M for Murder, Rear Window, and To Catch a Thief. Kelly personified the essence of his cool blonde and he made the most brilliant use of her regal, aristocratic sophistication and beauty. Grace with the help of her designers changed Hitchcocks vision of her for the film The Country Girl, which won her the Golden Globe and the Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role of 1954. In 1956, she was voted the Golden Globes World Film Favorite Female Actor.

All you have to do is watch a small extract of any of her films to see how she personified the late 40s to early 50s era elegant fitted suits and tight bodice full skirt dresses with her fashionable blonde curled hair adorning every unique glamorous design she wore. The stylish cooperation between designer and actress continued off screen. The sleek baby blue satin dress worn for her Academy Award acceptance was also an Edith Head creation.

In 1956, she married Prince Rainier Grimaldi III of Monaco to become Her Serene Highness Princess Grace of Monaco. Helen Rose was a MGM designer who Grace chose to be the creator of her fabulous wedding gown. This dress for me personified Graces unforgettable style. The dress was made of yards of silk, silk taffeta, silk tulle and rich, antique Valenciennes lace. Her bridesmaid dresses were designed by Pricilla Comins who was also a talented designer of the 50s.

Just to give you some idea of the influence she had on 50s style and fashion, in 1956 she arrived in New York carrying a large, almost square handbag she had purchased at Hermes in Paris. Henceforward it became known as the Kelly bag and this is still how we refer to it today.

Graces new life with her prince meant she was forced to give up her successful acting career but even so in 1962 Alfred Hitchcock offered her the leading role in Marnie which she refused. She settled to life as a Princess and a mother with her three children, Caroline, Albert, and Stephanie. Finally in 1977 after a break of almost 20 years she narrated a documentary, The Children of Theatre Street. This was the last time we were to hear her on the silver screen.

Like all fairytales this story has as dramatic an ending as the best. Grace died on 14 September 1982 after her car went off a road in the cliffs of Monaco and ended the life of one of the best and most beautiful actresses of the silver screen. So now you can see why Grace is one of my vintage icons, aristocratic elegance, beauty, charm, unsurpassed class, she had it all. No vintage collection would be complete without something taken from her emphatic 50s style.

Debra spends most of her time on her vintage clothes blog, Vintage Clothes.
